Tier 3 units for overclock
Tier 3 units for overclock
Hello, to achieve those speeds you're aiming for, a tier 3 power supply would be suitable. Your current components are well within stock limits, but upgrading to a higher wattage will help support the increased power demands. The rosewill photon 750W unit should handle this upgrade effectively.
Better voltage regulation won't make any difference in performance. It'll just supply the components with more stable power with less fluctuation, which can mean longer life-span of the components. But realistically, nothing to lose sleep over unless it's bad, and the Photon has 2% regulation on the 12V rail, which is most important, and ripple is also fantastic, so your components are safe and you have a long-lasting power supply from the Chemi-Con and Fujitsu caps.
Here are the main components you mentioned:
Power supply, MSI Gaming 5 MOBO, 4790k, Mushkin ECO2 16 GB RAM at 1600MHz with 9 CAS, and XFX Radeon R9 380X.

4.8ghz, would really benefit from a good cooler then.
750W is excellent for 380x and i7 OCed, the PSU is also fine.
Best of luck with those adjustments.
A decent cooler would be great.
Better voltage regulation doesn't significantly impact performance. It merely provides more stable power to components, reducing fluctuations and potentially extending their lifespan. However, practically nothing is at stake unless there are issues, as the Photon offers only 2% regulation on the 12V rail, which is crucial. The ripple performance is also excellent, ensuring your components remain safe and you receive a durable power supply from the Chemi-Con and Fujitsu capacitors.
