Ave, I am trying to figure out my next setup. I figured out I want a Ryzen 9700X, since its powerful enough and energy efficient enough. The computer will be running 24/5. I will use it mostly for work. Sometimes I will use it as SSH remote workstation, sometimes I will use it directly. That being said. One of my big requirements is being able to connect it Thunderbolt 3 (Lenovo gen 3.2) dock, for networking, keyboard and mouse. If I can push video through that connection even better. But I think that my screens will be smart enough to switch to video output that is actually outputing something I want to occassionally hook up my MBP M1 to that workstation (that is the reason I want to stay with Thunderbolt 3 dock). Could someone help me figure if it is at all possible to make AMD setup that will work with that thing? I found a lot of conflicting information so far.
Alternative options exist, such as Asus' ProArt series motherboards. They include USB4/Thunderbolt ports even with a DP-in for a dedicated GPU. Other choices are AM5 motherboards featuring an integrated USB4 port powered by an iGPU. The Gigabyte X870i Pro Ice and its ATX variant both offer fully operational USB4 ports suitable for Thunderbolt devices.
In short, it's going to be quite costly to get the Thunderbolt functioning.
