With Speed Shift Technology enabled, the Set Multiplier feature is turned off since it’s no longer needed. When ThrottleStop shows SST in green on the main screen, modify the Speed Shift Max value in the TPL window to manage the top speed. If you’re unsure about using ThrottleStop, share some screenshots of your settings and I’ll assist. Include the main window, FIVR and TPL interfaces. For power limit throttling issues, attach a Limit Reasons screenshot as well. Enable the Log File option to keep a log of your CPU performance during gaming.

I mainly grasp how Throttlestop functions. It keeps applying PL2 throttling continuously. When I first noticed how quickly I could push the system, I used chilled air to cool it down and observed the CPU drawing over 75 watts.

Of course that is how it used to be. The only thing I did recently was I added a service code from a different alienware 15 r2 into the BIOS, but that one was the 6700hq version. Using chilled air this time it bounced between 45w-55w and dipped down way below 45w from time to time. So idk if that borked stuff or what. The reason why I had to add a service code was that alienware control center and other alienware software didn't want to install due to the fact that this logic board (which I bought off ebay) had no service code. I should mention though that I think the reason it is "PL2" throttling is because one core is running at 90 C all the time and the delta between cores is 20 C so thats a classic case of a bad mount imo. However I just remounted the cooler and it didn't help so idk what I am doing wrong here.

And now Throttlestop stopped working properly, refusing to adjust multipliers. I'm stuck at 3.6GHz unless I switch to XTU. It's been really frustrating.

I only needed to reapply the CPU paste. Now it's operating at 4.1GHz across all cores, consuming 65-70 watts.

Intel developed Speed Shift for mobile processors, but it took Dell time to integrate it into BIOS. Modern Intel laptops with these CPUs automatically support it. Intel XTU lacks this feature if BIOS doesn’t offer it. The ThrottleStop version you’re using is nearly two years old; newer versions include MMIO power limits. Ensure the MMIO Lock box is active to disable another restriction. TS 9.3 does not support this option. Also, verify the Windows Defender Boost settings in the Options window.

It’s now throttling the VRMs because they’re overheating. Once I land a new job, I’ll upgrade to a K5 Pro and swap out my old thermal pads for K5 Pro ones. During the repasting process, I saw that some of the thermal pads weren’t making good contact on 1 or 2 chokes.
