Throttling power limits during XTU testing
Hello. This work was done on a laptop, and I ran a benchmark using an Intel XTU processor. I noticed power throttling happening. I've experienced throttling before—temperature and power limits—but only when the package got close to 90°C or higher. Recently my temperature stabilized around 75°C. I'm unsure if that's typical. Would you mind sharing your system details and the undervolting adjustments you've made? Thanks ahead of time. It's typical for the 7700HQ to run low on power, and undercoating won't resolve this. If you're achieving at least 2.8GHz, it's best to keep it as is.
Indicates the 45W target isn't sufficient for the CPU to maintain clock speeds. Reducing voltage won't make much difference since it offers only a tiny improvement in such a challenging scenario. The 7700HQ requires around 70W to operate at maximum capacity.
No problem, also keep the undervolt, it'll also help a bit. Not by much but it's aomwthing
The 7700HQ features a 45 Watt TDP rating. Generally, the maximum power draw would be capped at 45W, while the lower limit tends to be around 60W based on the manufacturer. If you adjusted the turbo settings to restrict output to 25W for thermal management, you’ll notice significant throttling during peak usage. That’s exactly what the CPU was instructed to do.
