I've experienced frequent thermal throttling at 99 degrees on my i7 4710hq. After resetting yesterday, temperatures dropped to 89-90 degrees with a -0.085v undervolt setting. Despite not throttling, I'm still hitting the EDP power limit, capping around 3.4ghz. Need help resolving this issue.

From a theoretical standpoint in the bios, but I wouldn’t mention it on a laptop—the cooling isn’t great and 90°C remains extremely high.

It was a decent gaming laptop, and the display stayed neutral as well.

Absolutely, but from my perspective 75°C is quite steep. A 90°C rating on a gaming laptop is typical, but overheating can shorten component life—especially the VRM, which may suffer damage over time.

It depends on how the boosts are set. Maximizing turbo boost power and short boost power max can help avoid EDP throttling, but you still need to balance them properly for optimal performance.

I stay below 70°C thanks to my desktop setup and a powerful cooler that handles the 160W heat from my CPU when it's under stress. On a laptop, reaching 75°C is nearly out of reach, 90°C is still better than average, but I avoid getting close to the maximum temperature just in case the room gets warmer. It's wise to leave some margin so the cooler isn't overwhelmed. EDP controls how much power the CPU uses, helping the cooler manage the heat.
