Throttling in PIA torrents?
Throttling in PIA torrents?
I've been using PIA for years without any problems. Today, when I opened QBitorrent, I experienced extremely high download speeds (kilobits). With a 400-450 megabit connection via Spectrum, I ran speed tests through the VPN and got around 2 megabits per second on a good run. After closing QBitorrent, I reloaded the speed test through the VPN and achieved 300 megabits per second. I repeated this process several times and consistently got similar results. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Did PIA begin throttling torrenting? I asked the same question on Reddit, but it was quickly removed. I didn’t notice any rules section in the PIA sub, so I assumed I wasn’t violating any guidelines. Based on what I’ve experienced, things seem a bit suspicious. Thanks in advance for your help!
I haven't tried PIA, but I'm aware NordVPN offers its own dedicated torrent or file-sharing servers that you need to join. Could PIA provide similar functionality?
Checking your qbittorrent configuration—port used, queue status, background seeding. Testing a Ubuntu ISO download via BitTorrent and comparing throttling behavior with and without a VPN. Also, exploring alternative VPN server connections.
it has been a long time since I configured qbittorrent. i don’t recall the exact steps, but i think i adjusted the port number and the limits for simultaneous uploads and downloads. it seems everything is functioning properly for years now, yet suddenly it stopped working. i remember having some files in the queue, but they weren’t using up enough bandwidth to overload my regular connection—neither the upload nor download speeds. (meaning not enough to strain my usual spectrum connection either, which typically delivers 150-350 megabits through the VPN. slowdowns only occurred when qbittorrent was active.) usually i get between 150-350 megabits via the VPN, but when it was off, speeds jumped back to over 300 megabits. i managed around 8 simultaneous uploads/downloads, each at roughly 200 kilobits or less (mostly lower), with most downloads around 10-40 kilobits and uploads similar. i experimented with various VPN servers, both with and without port forwarding, and kept qbittorrent on port 28482 as usual. i also used a split tunnel setup, sending qbittorrent and chrome through the VPN while regular traffic went through the standard internet. i ran a speed test without the VPN to confirm it wasn’t affecting my connection, and got about 450 megabits. i plan to download the ubuntu iso tomorrow to see how it performs. thanks for your help.
