I just got an i9 9900k and when I launch a game like LOL or Code, it drops from 4.8 GHz to 3.6 GHz. Intel Extreme shows the power limit is being throttled. After setting the limit to unlimited, everything works fine, but whenever I switch games or restart the one I was on, it repeats the same issue. However, with BFV or Star Wars: The Fallen Order, there are no problems at all (the specs are gigabyte Z390 gaming, Intel i9 9900k, MSI RTX 2070, etc.).

PL1 needs updating but it raises safety issues since 9900k draws a massive amount of power—making this board unreliable compared to its capacity (just 250W with proper cooling). I’m hoping Gigabyte added an overtemperature protection.

You're facing the same issue again! I understand it's frustrating. Have you considered adjusting the PL1 settings to match your hardware? Your specs look great, but sometimes tweaks help resolve compatibility problems.

@JunzZ @Precision_03 Apply ThrottleStop to secure your turbo restrictions. Intel XTU lacks the Lock feature. Remove any Gigabyte CPU management tools from your system.

You might want to consider a different approach since it shouldn't occur when using the BIOS bypass feature.

It might be possible if your BIOS isn't correctly applying the turbo power settings or if external software or games are affecting those limits. You may need to manually set the turbo power limit register each time the computer starts or restarts to avoid this issue. Your cooling system is great, and proper power restrictions help the CPU perform better and more reliably. The standard 95W TDP cap keeps the processor from operating at its maximum capacity. This situation seems more like a misunderstanding than a serious technical fault. https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/...0-ghz.html He modified the power settings in BIOS, but the issue persists. @Precision_03 resolved it by using ThrottleStop to lock the turbo register, though neither BIOS nor Intel XTU offers this feature. His 9900K now maintains a steady 4.8 GHz during games instead of dropping to 3.6 GHz. There appears to be either a BIOS problem or the game altering the limits unexpectedly.
