Throttle control for the Intel i5 9300h's power usage
I purchased an Acer Nitro 5 equipped with a GTX 1650 and an Intel i5 9300h processor a few months back. Everything worked well until about a week ago when I noticed a drop in performance during games. I investigated and discovered that my CPU was hitting its power limit, which is why it was throttling. I have the Intel ETU installed but am unsure how to resolve this issue. Thank you for your help!
You might consider reducing the volume with ThrottleStop. However, it likely won’t make a big difference. This could be one of several reasons why a desktop is preferable for gaming.
It doesn't seem like you use a cooling pad, usually the temperature stays around 75-85 degrees.
@Mohamed share several screenshots for assistance with ThrottleStop. The base and cache voltages don’t have to match exactly. I suggest downloading and using Cinebench R20 for testing. https://www.maxon.net/en-us/products/cin...-overview/ Begin with core and cache offsets at -100 mV, then gradually raise the core offset while keeping the cache at -100 mV. Many processors remain fully stable at -200 mV or -225 mV. Increase by -25 mV increments and check Cinebench results to gauge improvement.
To halt the throttle, you need to turn off the turbo boost feature, which isn’t very satisfying as it reduces your top speed to about 2.4. I plan to adjust the settings further for optimal performance. Update: I no longer see an option to cap the turbo speed; now a solid CPU speed of 3.5 is enough to resolve the issue.
