Three games may fail to launch upon startup after installing the new Nvidia driver. Is your CPU functioning properly?
Hi pc:
System specs and recent experiences
2x16 GB DDR5 GSKILL 6800
Rtx 4090 Gigabyte Gaming
Aorus Elite Z790 AX
SSD KINGSTON 2TB
Seasonic 1300W PX ATX 3.0 PCIE 5.0
Windows 11
Each time I update the NVIDIA drivers and start Remnant 2 (using the same UE5 engine as Lords OTF), it sometimes crashes during shader compilation, causing a BSOD. After the first launch, subsequent launches work properly. The same issue occurred with Lords of The Fallen during shader compilation on the first run, but later launches are stable. However, if I install new drivers and launch the game for the first time, it can crash again.
In the third game, Hogwart Legacy, I experienced crashes on startup three times—two during shader compilation and one at the same time. After a fourth attempt, it started working again and is now running smoothly. I’m wondering if this instability might be due to my CPU not being stable, or if it’s related to the drivers.
Also, I ran a Karhu RAM test and Cinebench R23 passed without errors. Prime95 Small FT also showed stability.
Should I consider changing the RAM or CPU? What do you think? Thanks.
Consider reducing your texture settings. Running out of VRAM has no fix except limiting usage or buying a GPU with more VRAM. Maybe the latest driver needs more (which means it should be optimized). Unlike regular programs, a GPU kernel driver can't use virtual memory (including swap), so it must rely on physical RAM. A discrete GPU with its own VRAM can't access system RAM and must stay within VRAM limits.
