The theoretical maximum RAM for a Threadripper is around 1TB, but most motherboards list a limit of 128GB. Have you come across any systems with over 128GB in a Threadripper setup? I’m looking for advice on larger configurations since I run huge simulations and need more memory. Thanks, Chris.

Threadripper supports only unbuffered memory, reaching a limit of 16GB per DDR4 module. With a maximum of 8 modules, the total storage reaches 128GB.

Thanks for the feedback Jurrunio. Are there any dimmer systems that reduce load without buffering, especially around 4:08? Linus mentioned a 1TB figure, but it seems more like a theoretical value. No one appears to have developed an unbuffered version of that size yet. It might be limited to server environments, and for capacities over 128GB, it’s unlikely any have been created soon.

Perhaps locating a mainboard with more than eight RAM slots would help ^^

Just checked, I own a first-gen mobile from Gigabyte X399 Pro (latest BIOS F2). It has four 32GB sticks and four 8GB sticks totaling 160GB. System works fine without issues, but it needs an update to Windows Pro. Home versions limit to 128GB, so I had to lower the speed from 3400MHz to 3000MHz. My previous RAM was 32GB at 4000MHz, now it's 3600MHz. Scores in R20 look almost identical from 12300 to 12000, not a big hit. CPU model is 2990WX.
