The core issue revolves around open GL. It seems the program itself is rejecting it due to non-commercial GPU usage, rather than performance limitations. I frequently use Maya and Vectorworks, both of which have previously undergone similar "certification" processes. The CPU works harder but still functions without GPU acceleration.
I’ll add more cores and threads to handle any task. My machine runs the i7-5960X, but I worry it might not perform well with only six cores...
SolidWorks functions as a central processing unit. It handles a few threads, but most rendering occurs on one core in a sequential manner. This creates a straightforward flow from A to B to C. Unless they completely reworked it since my last use in 2014 (which might make me seem old), the situation remains unchanged.
Are you comfortable with minor memory issues? Even at a tiny 0.00001% probability? If not, consider ECC memory, though it does slow things down and increase latency due to error checks. For non-critical tasks, the dual 3090 works fine. A 21k CUDA core count is significant. You could wait until next year—perhaps mid-2021—or upgrade to a TR5000.
The latest update indicates the software runs mainly on a single thread. When you need to rotate, zoom, or move parts, it uses extra threads or GPU power. Since I'm not making videos but just static images, that's not a strong enough reason to justify the cost of a Quadro. I also discovered SW Flow isn't optimized for GPU acceleration—good news because I'll have some extra cores available.
