Threadripper 2990wx paired with RAM modules
I couldn't locate any confirmation that this would function, but I had to use it for my job. Results showed 2990wx on an Asus X399-E can support at least four 32GB drives. I installed F4-3200c16q-128GTZN, which was in stock then. Be sure to update your BIOS and place the drives in the proper slots according to the user guide. As usual with this setup, keep track of your RAID configurations before proceeding. It’s possible you might need to reset your board settings. I’m curious if this system could handle a 256GB configuration in quad channels—though I’m unsure if another identical RAM module would fit properly and maintain performance across all channels.
It’s likely the RAM won’t work properly or maintain stability if it puts too much stress on the motherboard or processor. You might have to adjust voltages, ease timing constraints, or even lower performance. For quad-channel setups with identical kits or a full kit, stability is easier to achieve. When RAM hits 256 GB, memory ranks can become challenging for the controller, especially with interleaving. Keep channel usage consistent unless you’re intentionally leaving space open or the controller fails to recognize all slots.
