I have some unused components: an Intel i5-3350 quad-core CPU, a DQ77MK motherboard, and 8GB DDR3 (2x4) RAM. I’m curious if anyone has suggestions on how to repurpose them. Is it worth investing £50–70 GBP to build a backup PC or a dedicated server setup? If you have any ideas or recommendations, please share!

You might use a web server or a VPN server (allowing external access to your network), perhaps a music or video server for streaming your content remotely.

I'm not fond of saying this, but alternatives like FreeNAS are worth considering. (While dedicated systems such as QNAP or ReadyNAS are preferred, home-built solutions remain widely used)
