Good day. I just received a new MB and noticed some unusual spots—possibly residue. Anyone has any ideas? It doesn’t seem like the issue is with the device itself, just trying to figure it out. Thanks!

Likely solder flux is used, followed by a cleaning agent afterward.

It's likely flux; it helps the solder-tin move more easily Smile

Are you referring to the soldering process or the oily components? If it's the latter, it's likely thermal grease—nothing conductive, so no need to worry. Edit: @AbydosOne seems correct. Edited July 2, 2020 by TofuHaroto

It seems like the process is working smoothly.

It's typical to find them in items that are hand-welded rather than machine-made.

See some of Louis Rossman's clips while he applies flux—it’s hard not to think it resembles flux paste or a thermal pad consistency.
