I’ve recently developed an intense OCD focus on my CPU clock, north bridge timing, and RAM specifications because I truly wanted to optimize my setup.
I just needed you all to laugh at this effort that could be considered pointless.
I upgraded my 5820k from the stock speed to 4375MHz, adding 875MHz at vcore 1.270v.
After two days of troubleshooting the northbridge, I finally reached 3500MHz with a +500MHz boost.
Then I spent three more days refining my RAM settings from 15-17-17-35-2T-390tRFC to 14-15-15-33-2T-382tRFC.
I realized I was being foolish—my RAM was in dual channel mode, so I switched it to quad and installed the DIMMs in the black slots on my motherboard, like I should have done years ago.
That brought my RAM bandwidth up from 31GB/s to 59GB/s.
And guess what? At 3 a.m., with a migraine, I won’t let Memtest86, AIDA64, or Realbench in again. But joy! Just Cause 3 officially runs about 14 frames per second faster.
Phew. Thank God I’m still alive.

It would really pay off to try upgrading your 2T RAM to 1T. You might notice a noticeable improvement in boot time right away. Your current overclock from 3K to 3.5 is probably not worth it if you're mainly focused on gaming performance. Also, for better results, use a real benchmark instead of a game, as game optimizations can differ.

Just Cause 3 performs at about 14 frames per second more than before.
Is it worth it?

Absolutely! It's great to see you've managed to improve, even a little. Any progress is welcome. You did a solid job sticking with it!

Haha I was sure someone would chuckle at this! There’s a small sense of satisfaction realizing I pushed my computer to its limits. I couldn’t even reduce the RAM timing by a single point, let alone boost the CPU overclock by 50 megahertz. Still, those 14 frames per second in my favorite game felt like a solid reward, LOL. Was it worth it? Only after I finally figured it out after days of research, testing, stress tests, tweaks, and failures—eventually passing until nothing remained to adjust. That’s a lot of effort, but I guess it paid off! My comfort comes from knowing the GTX 1080 Ti is rumored to be about 15-20 frames per second faster in games than my 1080, so maybe I did get a better one after all? I’ll still buy one, though—haha

14 FPS really represents a significant improvement, honestly. I'm glad it's happening.

I usually use 3dmark passmark aida64 and other tools as well. My first goal was to adjust the speed from 2n/2t to 1n/1t, but my motherboard won’t let me change it. It stays in auto mode no matter what I try. There are no visible settings where I can modify it. Changing it manually just resets it back to auto as soon as I stop using it. I’ve heard many motherboards don’t support this feature, and even those that do... Hope you’re able to get it stable.

That's correct, Umbra_the_Wolf and CmdrJeffSinclair. It seems I'm still having trouble connecting my accounts to Tom's system.

ScreamSilence :
it would be better to focus on a bigger improvement by upgrading your 2T RAM to 1T. You might notice a quick boost in boot time too. Your current overclock from 3K to 3.5 is probably not worth it if your main goal is gaming performance.

Also, for more accurate results, use a benchmark rather than a game since game optimizations differ.

I purchased my RAM as 14-15-15-33-1N-382tRFC @3000MHz 1.390v quad channel. AIDA64 shows speeds of 54-59GB/s for read/write/copy with a latency of 54ns. Passmark memory score was 3326, and Memtest86+ passed without errors.

I didn’t notice much difference between 2N and 1N either.
