I’d prefer the G3258 over the Q8400. There seems to be a stronger AMD option near that price point. However, I haven’t purchased any AMD parts yet, so I’m not sure.

You haven't purchased it yet; the R7 265 offers better performance than the 960, though 2.6ghz could be too slow for GTA5. I haven't experimented with running games at that low speed before.

The R7 265 offers similar performance to the 960, while being more comparable to the 750TI rather than the 960. The R9 280/x lineup matches up with the 960. It's usually wiser to choose a 280x over a 960 since the price jump is around $10 for better speed.
