Ubuntu Server and Lubuntu 16 are now compatible with the Wii. This setup differs slightly from previous releases. For downloads and in-depth guidance, visit the GitHub page: https://github.com/Wiibuntu/Ubuntu-16.04-Wii. Required items include a Wii equipped with Homebrew USB flash drive (8GB or more for Lubuntu, 4GB or more for others), an SD card (additional 1GB recommended), and tools to flash the drive and SD card. Known problems to address: color accuracy issues due to dual kernels—one works but struggles with colors, the other has accurate colors but uses a different compiler. You’ll also need to update the open-b43 driver similar to what was done for Ubuntu 14 to enable Wi-Fi. The project aims to deliver one of Ubuntu’s final Wii releases after extensive testing and adjustments. This version builds on Wii-Linux-NGX, using kernel 4.4 from a forked NGX repository.

I’m not sure about the exact reason—whether it’s due to a specific concern or simply losing interest.

I haven't found any 32-bit PowerPC builds older than 16.04 except those I'm creating from scratch. That's the current limit I'm aware of.

When the need arises, you can find Gentoo at the official site: https://www.gentoo.org/downloads/#ppc

It's on my to-do, Debian SID with the latest packages for Kernel 4.4 via apt safe-upgrade is my current task. I've begun it already, but it still needs more functionality before I'm satisfied. I'm considering switching to Gentoo or even Void next.

It's interesting. Ubuntu 16.04 was the initial Linux release I encountered, which gives me a slight fondness for it.

It was the initial system I consistently used, though my earliest installation was EasyPeasy running on Ubuntu 10.10.

It seems like you're asking about a scenario involving WII running Linux and your reaction being "Kinda." Could you clarify what you mean? Are you referring to a specific context or situation? That way I can better assist you.
