Hey everyone, here’s what I’m thinking about for the renovation. Since we’re doing a full framing job with DIY electrical work, it’s perfect to start setting up network cabling now. For the APs and POE cameras, I plan to run them through a keystone unmounted in the ceiling and connect everything with a patch cable. Is that feasible? I’ve attached a list of tools and materials. Should I buy dedicated patch cables or can I reuse the extra cable from the house wiring? This is just for the network cabinet—do I need conduit? With only framing, installing conduit to each room or between basement and attic makes sense. How should I secure the wires when going up vertically? I’m considering using staples for Cat6a cables. Since there’s no specific state code for data communications wiring, I’ll follow the national standards. Any quick summary would be great. I’m in NJ, USA.
I will arrange PoE power delivery. The connected switch isn't a PoE model, so we need an alternative solution.
These APs include a POE injector; earlier mention would have been better
A PoE switch would save on power connectors but the current device is really solid. I personally purchased one and I’m really impressed. I also craft my own patch cables, which I like because I enjoy the process and can tailor the length to my needs rather than being limited by standard sizes. I have cable staples installed along my walls.
