This setup won't exit BIOS automatically—MSI B550 Tomahawk with Ryzen 5600X
Hello, I installed my new CPU/motherboard but it won't boot. System: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, MSI Tomahawk B550, Corsair 3600mhz RAM, 2x8GB CL16 SSD (Windows drive) plus two hard drives. Initially, debug lights were on for DRAM and booting. The BIOS that came with the board was dated September 3rd. Since my new Ryzen 5000 is newer, I updated to the latest BIOS from MSI. I connected a USB with the newest BIOS and flashed it successfully. Now the boot debug light is active. I'm unsure why it won't start. After restarting, it immediately jumps into BIOS. If I close the BIOS menu, it returns after about two seconds. The "Boot Priority" lists UEFI Hard Disk first. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Do you own a solid-state drive or hard disk in your computer and have you set up an operating system there?
Windows is running on your Samsung SSD. The BIOS recognizes the SSD along with your other HDDs and the rest of your PC components.
It's unusual. Usually, when Windows is set up in GPT, the Boot Manager should appear and be the default boot choice. My concern is whether you installed the operating system on the correct drive. I recommend disconnecting all other external drives, keeping only the SSD connected, and then reinstalling Windows to check if the problem persists.
Upgrading the motherboard, CPU, and RAM is a significant change, and Windows may not always adapt well, particularly when switching between different chipset manufacturers like Intel and AMD. Following such a major overhaul, the safest approach is to perform a clean installation. This is the recommendation I would make.
It varies. Imagine you upgrade from 3600X to 3950X, but keep the same motherboard and processor type. It’s generally fine, especially across different systems. However, some chipset and processor drivers might not work well together with another vendor’s board, leading to problems.
