Hey everyone! I am having a lot of trouble with 128gb of DDR5 5600Mhz memory in my PC here. I've checked that both the MOB and the CPU supports 5600mhz memory and a total of 128gb. The kits are 2 of the same kind from the same store, nothing mixed. CPU: i7 14700k GPU: Radeon RTX 7900 XTX TUF OC Memory: 2 sets of Kingston FURY Beast RGB DDR5 5600MHz 64GB (KF556C40BBK2 - 64) Motherboard: Asus Proart z790 So my problem is as follows: - 64gb memory inn, normal or default settings, it will boot - 96gb memory inn, it will boot but the Windows 10 is super unstable - 64gb memory inn, XMP2 (5600mhz, 40-40-40-80), it will boot - 128gb memory inn, normal or default settings, it won't boot - 128gb memory inn, XMP2 (5600mhz, 40-40-40-80), it won't boot - 64gb memory inn, XMP2 (5600mhz, 40-40-40-80) with DRAM VDD Voltage set to 1.300, DRAM VDDQ Voltage set to 1.300, PMIC Voltages set to Per PMIC. For each version that has managed to get to BOOT I've let it go to Windows. For each version that hasn't boot, I haven't been able to get to Safe BOOT. Any suggestions what I am to do? Edit: I've already flashed the BIOS to version 2002, which is the newest. Also I've check that all of the memory sticks are able to boot the computer, I.E. none of them are dead Edited March 8, 2024 by Omess Update informasjon
Sure! I didn't see that in the post, but great! The BIOS is now updated to version 2002, the latest version.
Plan for future BIOS updates to add RAM slots 1 and 3 from the CPU. If successful, it could be lucky. Currently, most boards struggle with 4 DDR5 sticks yet. Remember your two sets should stay separate—place one in slots 2 and 4 temporarily. For a 128GB system, use two 64GB kits instead of two 64GB units. Note that some 4-stick packages are more likely to work than single 64GB kits.
I also assembled the PC using Omess. It starts up in safe mode even though XMP isn't enabled. I've tried all possible fixes so far—cleared the CMOS, but I can't locate the BIOS battery, possibly hidden under the PROART plastic plate. After searching, someone else managed to get 4 sticks (not a kit) running at up to 6000MHz. I suspect this might just be luck based on the RAM controller and the actual RAM. We reviewed the QVL before purchasing RAM; initially we checked 4-stick sets but faced long waits and one PC crashed, so we needed something quick. It seems some 4-stick options are listed on the QVL, though they only support socket types 1 and 2, not 4. Based on our previous build with DDR4 RAM, it looked like a reasonable shot. However, we now know 4 sticks of DDR5 aren't stable even in 2024, and manufacturers warn that 4-stick kits aren't guaranteed to work—just a higher chance they’ll function. So we’re deciding to return the kit and avoid buying any 4-stick sets, opting instead for 2x48GB.
It matters too whether the sticks have both sides or not... Four single-sided 32GB sticks could be simpler to obtain, especially at slower speeds, since nobody appears to experience stability issues with XMP.
