I secured offers for the Ryzen 5 1600 and AsRock X370M Pro 4 around $151. Is it still a good value in 2020, considering performance? Or would switching to the 3000 series be better?

It'll add another $100 for the 3600 and board. 151 looks reasonable, though I'm worried about how easily it can be upgraded later. I question whether AMD will maintain the B350/x370 models for a long time.

X370 is no longer functioning, and the first-gen Ryzens weren’t outstanding chips—just better than the Athlons but still lacking. Still, for $151 you won’t find a superior option. Moving up to a 3600 will nearly double the cost, especially with boards like the B450 (prices are rising because of demand and limited supply). It won’t automatically improve your upgrade path either, though performance will skyrocket.

Purchase the 1600 and x370 models. Their secondary market worth remains consistent whenever you plan to upgrade to a different graphics card, CPU, or GPU.

AMD stated they won’t back Zen 3 for the B350/X370 models. The 1600 processor isn’t a strong match compared to today’s and previous generations of chips.
