Hello, After upgrading my CPU in November last year, I experienced stutters and lag in Overwatch 2. Prior to that, I ran on an i5-9400f with a Gigabyte Z390UD board without any problems. Since switching to the Ryzen 5 5600 and a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2 board, random stutters and frame drops started occurring occasionally—especially when using Chrome or Spotify in the background. After several BIOS updates, the issue improved but persisted. Now I still face occasional stutters and brief frame drops even with the latest drivers and firmware. These interruptions feel like the game pauses for less than half a second. You can review my configuration in my profile or below this post. Setup: CPU – Ryzen 5 5600 (non-x version); Motherboard – Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2; RAM – Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 16GB (2x8GB) / 3200MHz; GPU – Gigabyte GTX 1660 Ti (GV-N166TWF2OC-6GD); Storage – Kingston A2000 M.2 250GB; PSU – Seasonic Focus+ 550W/80+ Gold. Monitoring data comes from graph analysis of temperatures and performance. I’m considering a GPU replacement as a potential solution, though I still have some thermal paste remaining from my CPU upgrade last year.

You replaced your GPU when the CPU wasn’t the problem. The 1660ti struggles with that game, especially since it’s not just Minecraft.

Did your CPU draw or usage rise unexpectedly? Was there a performance issue that limited the GPU? With a 1660 Ti, stuttering shouldn’t be a problem—should should work fine for Overwatch.

Can we view the display in sensor-only mode? Was a fresh Windows installation made? Upgrading from 9400f to 5600 would be a significant adjustment to ensure smooth operation.

I'm up to date with the newest BIOS and chipset drivers, but I haven't checked your GPU drivers yet.

I enhanced the CPU for better performance, especially in Valorant where frame rates jumped significantly. I’m used to high FPS and 240Hz settings. The CPU upgrade helped me go from around 230fps to about 290fps on average, with smoother low-end performance when things run well. My GPU usage stays around 70% (usually between 68-80%), while the CPU is at about 33%. I recall the 9400f ran at 50% and the GPU at 60% when using Sensort only mode. I didn’t reinstall Windows after the CPU change, but problems appeared right away, improving later with BIOS updates. I have GeForce Experience installed and check for updates weekly.

Checking Task Manager during games or Cinebench usually shows if your CPU is hitting the correct clock speed—ideally around 4.4GHz. If your BIOS settings were incorrect for your 5800X3D, you might have experienced slower performance and a lower-than-expected clock rate.

Never considered running a test on cinebench since my GPU and CPU are functioning well. The frame rate matches expectations for my current setup—around 280 fps in Overwatch and about 370 fps in Valorant. Both CPU and GPU results align with benchmarks found on YouTube. For context, the 1660ti matches GTX 1070, GTX 1660 SUPER, and RTX 3050. Recent BIOS updates have resolved frame drop problems. Previously, frame drops occurred when background apps like Spotify or YouTube played in the background. Now, random stutters appear even without such distractions. It seems to stem from a priority conflict. If not, it could relate to newer Nvidia driver versions.

You can try different driver versions to see how they perform. Does the issue persist when V-sync is turned on? Is it limited to one game or occurs across multiple titles?
