You're weighing the pros and cons of upgrading to an i5-12400F with compatible motherboards. It's natural to feel cautious about thermal efficiency and power delivery stability. Research suggests these concerns are valid—checking reviews and benchmarks can help confirm your worries. As for motherboards, both ASUS Prime B660M-A D4 and B660-PLUS D4 are solid choices for an ATX Mid case, but the B660-PLUS often offers better VRM design and overclocking potential. Consider your budget and future needs when deciding.

I recently tried this same configuration with an RTX 3060 and everything seems to be working well. I can run many AAA games at near maximum settings in 4K, probably getting more frames than expected. The stock cooler is handling it fine, though I’m keeping an eye on temperatures. Overall, I’m satisfied so far. AIO coolers are definitely worth considering.

VRM isn't a big concern for the 12400f. It consumes very little power when compared to the premium models. A B660 board should work just fine!

Your temperatures have remained stable under heavy gaming loads with the stock cooler.
