Hello, I'm having some issues getting my Intel 9600KF CPU to reach 5GHz. Even though it's a popular model for overclocking, I haven't found many helpful tutorials on YouTube or Google. When I try to turn off all enforcement settings, it changes once I enter a value like 50 in the section labeled "sync all cores to ASUS managed." That's unusual! But after setting the multiplier to 50, I can manually disable it. I've tried both approaches, but Windows won't boot at 50. It works fine at 49. I'm planning to try 1.34V on the core and then increase to 1.35, though I don't know what's causing the problem. My ASUS Z390-i gaming card has a limit of 140% in the LLC/VRM area, possibly capping it at around 4.9GHz. It seems like it might be stuck at 5100MHz even after overclocking. I need maximum performance for Resident Evil 4, which is already pushing the CPU to its limits. On a side note, the voltage should be sufficient if it was previously overclocked to 5100MHz. Also, haven't checked the cache ratio in BIOS yet.
Certain CPUs handle overclocking differently. Success depends more on achieving stability than raw numbers. A small gap like 4.9GHz to 5GHz is usually negligible in practice. Maintaining steady performance around 1.34v at 4.9GHz is sufficient.
I adjusted the AVX offset to 2 and set min cache to 43 and max cache to 46. The core voltage is 1.35V. I managed to boot without BSOD, but at login my screen froze and turned black. I had to shut off the PC because a restart didn’t work. BIOS started in safe mode. If I can’t even boot on 50 MHz, I hope it stabilizes.
My cooler specs are a bit tight. The 4.9GHz/1.35V AVX with offset 3 and 43-46MB cache sound solid, but it’s not even in full summer mode. I thought the tests would confirm it should work, but maybe I need to tweak things a bit—especially voltage or LLC settings. It’s tough with big hands, but I might be able to adjust something. Oh no, I really need at least 4.9GHz!
Max temperatures stay around 90, CPU package hits 90 and one core is active! That’s probably a mistake. Core0 is actually increasing to 5160MHz!!! The system reports 61 when idle in Windows, but on the tray it’s 38, which seems more accurate. I’m using the latest version now, but monitoring seems faulty. I’ve added the SMbus drivers; maybe this build isn’t stable? Version 7.46-5110 works better than 7.00-4400. I’m trying to lower the temperature on LLC5, but it still reaches 87°C max. I’m considering lower LLC and voltage, possibly using AVX, which is now at 3, with core cache between 43 and 46. What about phase control, power duty, switching frequency? These mainly affect VRM temps, not much else. I usually set them high, but lowering them might help. I have Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste—do you think there’s room for improvement? When playing Resident Evil 4, CPU only boosts to 4600MHz? Do games use AVX? I get around +20-30 FPS and the CPU is always near max. It was a lucky break not to have many drops under 60 FPS. If I know this, 9600KF should be fine for RTX 3070, except maybe for CPU-heavy games. I had issues with 500MHz switching frequency and extreme settings—it felt unstable. Maybe I need to repaste, but it’s tough with my hands. I don’t want to replace the CPU just yet because of the cost and risk. It was a bit frustrating, especially during intense fights when it dropped to 56 instead of 40. I had similar problems on my old PC in Battlefield 1—just cranked up to 56 FPS. The aim felt like swimming underwater. I tried lowering details to get playable temps, but even at 4.9 with AVX1, drops to 46 even in intense fights. DLSS is blurry at 4.9GHz/1.35v. At 7.00-4400 it works better. I’m worried about stability—especially with 4.8 or 4.9GHz and low voltages. I need some tweaks, maybe lower details a bit and see if it helps. I don’t want to buy a used CPU for $250 or risk further damage. The game looks amazing, but I’m stuck here!
I don't think there is any way I can get above 4800AVX! Currently I can't even go to LLC 5 from 6 on 1.33v, without immediately crashing Prime 95 It says to 4800mhz in BIOS already 1.37v. But it works on 1.33 with LLC 6, or it seems it works on 1.35 LLC 5. I think I keep 1.35v LLC5, since I don't think you are supposed to run with LLC6 long-term! Also temps already get up to 85! Tho this is prime, in game they are lower I think, so there is probably some room! There are also some advanced tweaks, I don't think I can cut it tho on <= 1.35v. Do you think with some special tweaks I could get to 4.9ghz somehow? Also why my Core 1 has mostly only like 25% current usage in Prime 95? Oh i noticed one worker always stops!
