This processor isn't starting up properly.
Hello, I purchased an old server/workstation equipped with an Intel S500VSA4Dimmr motherboard and an E5320 CPU. I added 4x4GB RAM using the PC2-5300F chipset. I installed Linux Mint to verify functionality; it worked fine with one CPU, but the second E5320 failed to boot. Both units tested independently and functioned properly. Please let me know if anyone can assist or suggest steps to resolve this issue. Best regards, Technik_Panda
I used the second socket and it sent a Morse code message, but I can't tell if it's because the socket isn't working or if it's the second one. Also, I didn't mention that the CPU runs on an 8-pin EPS, while only having a 4-pin EPS connected.
It's likely there are two power connectors or each of the eight pins on one side connects to a different CPU. You might want to test swapping the four-pin connector to another side to see if it affects compatibility.
You don’t have IPA available—what alternative options might work?
The issue is that the 4pims don’t fit in the other half, and the PSU only has one unit available. Also, I think it might be a bit too simple for both CPUs, even though it’s just 250W.
I considered this too but wasn’t sure and didn’t want to buy it right away. If it doesn’t work, I’ll try another PSU or get a new one. I think I’d have needed it anyway since I plan to use it for a NAS with four HDDs.
