Building a system for a friend with a focus on small, functional gaming setups. He needs something lightweight and can play games on a 4K monitor. Current setup includes a mini ITX B450, 2200g cooler, unused RAM, an SFF PSU, and a 4K monitor. The existing components struggle at 4K resolution. I considered adding a GPU to the SG13B but wanted to check community feedback on performance at that frame rate. With low clocks like the 2200g, it’s possible the difference becomes noticeable. Would you upgrade the CPU to something closer to 2600/3600 for better 4K performance, or stick with what you have assuming near-100% GPU usage?
I don't suggest using the 2200G beyond 1080p unless you're just streaming Netflix. For better performance, a 3600 with an RX 5700XT would be ideal depending on your budget. If you need lower quality or can go slower, a 3300X with an 1660 Super offers a more affordable alternative.
At 4K resolution the frame rate differences will be smaller, but 2200G feels quite slow—consider upgrading to a Zen 2 chip, such as the 3300X, and pair it with a mid-range GPU like the 2060S.
Plan focuses on a GPU setup. Aim is to check if a 2200g can handle 4K without overloading the CPU and mostly relying on the GPU. Just below the top performance range.
