Hey everyone. Just switched to an i9-9900KF and it's heating up a lot—around 100°C. When I booted up in BIOS, things were cooler at 65°C, which was much lower than my i7-9700K during idle. Since the BIOS wasn’t updated, the system froze on Windows. After reinstalling the BIOS and updating the i9, it started smoothly with normal temps of 43°C in BIOS. I flashed the BIOS again and tried the new CPU, but it still hit 100°C during startup. The cooler I’m using is a 2015 Cooler Master H60. I applied a generous amount of thermal paste and checked it thoroughly—everything looks good. I’ve attached some videos showing the temperatures during boot. It’s definitely a hot CPU, but everything seems to be working now. Any tips?
It seems like you're considering a 5-year-old 120mm AIO cooler. You might want to check out some affordable stock Intel coolers to compare performance.
If multicore enhancement or a similar setting is enabled in BIOS, start by disabling it. The 9900K tends to overheat compared to a 9700K, especially under load, so a 120mm cooler might suffice for the 9700K but will struggle with the 9900K. Also, verify your thermal paste thickness—thinner may help detect issues during installation. Upgrading to a better cooler is strongly recommended.
