I've upgraded my CPU to an i9-10900K and installed the ML240 V2 cooler from Coolermaster. Despite low load, temperatures remain high—around 30-40% usage keeps it under 80°C, but at full load it reaches 100°C. It's surprising since the cooler is rated for 250 watts, yet the CPU only draws about 125 watts with the HW monitor on.
Just in case, please check if the cooler is making good contact with the CPU. And there is enough spread of thermal paste. Or if there is a plastic between. All fans connected/spinning? If not.. Maybe the cooler is faulty....
I already have it and it functioned well. I tested it on an i5, which didn’t require it to perform as hard as it does now.
It's establishing solid connection with the CPU IHS and the thermal paste is distributing uniformly. If the cooler is somewhat worn out, the liquid may start to evaporate and cause it to heat up more over time. Regarding the pump placement, how does it stack up against the radiator—higher or lower?
This appears to be a defective cooler. I've gathered some bench data for reference. My equivalent model is a 10-core 10850K. When boosted to 4900MHz, its performance matches that of a 10900K under normal settings. Keeping it cool during a Cinebench R23 stress test is straightforward. I own a Corsair H100i RGB Pro XT 240mm cooler that fits the same dimensions.
