Yesterday I increased my old Intel Core i7 2600k speed to 4.30 GHZ. It worked fine, but when I restarted it about ten minutes ago, it displayed around 6.50GHZ in the Windows Task Manager (refer to the photo). Under heavy load, it jumped to 7.08GHZ! The base clock changed from 3.40 GHZ to 5.90 GHZ. My computer still functions normally and I believe the issue lies with the Windows Task Manager getting confused. It didn’t return to normal even after a reboot. Thijs

It seems like something isn't quite working as expected. The claim about reaching those frequencies isn't supported by real-world data.

It's a know bug in task manager. You need to use a better tool to monitor clock speeds. XTU works well otherwise CPU-Z is always a safe bet

It seems Windows 10 is having trouble with older CPUs. Your 3550 was running at 4.2 GHz, but the Task Manager shows 5.5 GHz. You might want to try CPU-Z or HWMonitor to check performance details.

The issue stems from virtualization being activated. https://www.hanselman.com/blog/windows-t...ing-hyperv
