Thanks for the feedback! When installing the cooler, it should touch the CPU before securing it. The tightness should follow the instructions, but if you felt it was too tight, reducing the pressure on the second try makes sense. The rating matters more about temperature differences than overall ambient heat.
Focus more on load temperatures than idle performance. Is Cinebench suitable for checking this? It doesn’t appear to be a lengthy test.
You might want to pay attention soon, especially if something seems off during assembly.
The cooler's TDP is determined by its heat capacity in watts, not the processor's TDP specs. They're quite separate. When you're comfortable with the load temperatures, idle performance will be significantly better. If you're experiencing high temps (like 55-60°C in a 20°C room), it might mean overclocking or instability, so lowering the overclocks is a good idea. Staying within 5-10°C of the Thermal Junction Max is ideal, even during spikes, otherwise it's too hot and you should reduce the values.
until you notice a stop yes (I didn’t read this before replying) most trusted coolers guide you to this step, it’s the simplest way to guarantee correct mounting pressure. Some cheaper models could damage your CPU if you tighten too much, though your D15 is a high-end unit so don’t be concerned. A single run shouldn’t overload it, but you can try a looped test to see the saturated temperature (until it stabilizes). This is essentially the worst-case scenario if you’re just gaming. There are more intense tests, but they’re unlikely unless you’re using the CPU for heavy computations.
Thanks for the detailed response. I tried enabling overclocking but it didn’t work consistently, so I’m sticking with the default settings. I hope I can understand it eventually.
Great news. I usually play games and sit around 60-75 degrees. I've only experienced those temperatures before during a big spike when the new Avengers game launched. After checking, it turned out to be a software issue and my PC was fine. The game is running perfectly now.
