Hey there, I'm trying to figure this out. Maybe I'm being too sensitive. Lol. About six months ago, I rebuilt my first PC using Cyberpower PC. I learned more about computers and realized they often skip important parts. I replaced the motherboard, power supply, RAM, CPU cooler, and now everything is set up like this: i9 9900K, Nvidia EVGA ultra gaming OC 2080 Super graphics card, MSI MEG z390 Ace board, Samsung 860 EVO M.2 1TB SSD, Corsair RMX 1000 PSU, 32GB 3600Hz Trident GSKill RAM, and a Noctua dh15s CPU cooler. My CPU temps are usually around 42-45°C at idle, which seems fine for the stock speed. But I'm not sure if the cooler is doing enough. When I installed it, it already touched the CPU—was that normal? I also tried reseating it, but nothing changed. Maybe the room temperature is too high? Any tips or suggestions would be great!
The temperature rises significantly during Cinebench R20. It's a good idea to check for proper thermal paste application.
Yeah, Delta T over ambient is more valuable than raw temperature. My 7700K is running at about 13-15C Delta T over the ambient temperature, the ambient is 18C so it's idling at about 31C. ~40C doesn't seem ridiculously high, maybe a tiny bit, but it's an 8 core 14nm chip, they're known to be hot(ish). That aligns with what you should expect in-game. The temperatures are typically around 34-35 degrees during the day, and cooler at night. Many recommend keeping it near 30 degrees even when idle. I doubt everything online is accurate, so I’ll trust my own experience.
