Hello everyone. I was really thrilled when I got a new CPU after spending a long time with the 2700... now that I upgraded to a 5800x, my old system can’t run any games anymore. I can still watch videos and browse the web all day. But once I start a game, it’s a total mess! The screen flashes blue for a second, then goes black. It’s such a quick issue—it halts the game for 10 to 15 minutes, or if it’s easy, it might let it go on for 30 minutes. Temperatures are fine, no overclocking, RAM and GPU are solid. I’m used to frustration with my 2700. Now I’m thinking about returning the 5800X and giving up. PLEASE HELP!!! I just want to enjoy my new CPU!
It wouldn't be necessary to update the BIOS, but it might be worth checking. Did you use the same RAM speed (2700 or 3600) on that board?
Sure, I'll try varying the RAM speeds. Begin at 2933, check for any ongoing problems. If they appear, it likely points to the CPU, assuming everything else is current and temperatures are normal.
The issue is similar to "return and attempt once more with another one" or simply testing a different CPU. PS: experimenting with various clock speeds now.
Consider swapping it for a replacement under our return policy. A different CPU from the same model would work. The memory controller being part of the internal CPU makes me recommend testing various RAM speeds.
Do you have a riser cable installed? The one I used led to similar issues. I thought a PCIE Gen3 cable would work with both my motherboard and graphics card, assuming it was set to auto. It didn’t. Switching to a hard-set Gen3 mode felt like releasing a tight grip on my 5950x CPU. The GPU and CPU functioned fine, but the motherboard only supported Gen3. Once I switched to RTX 3090 5950X, everything worked properly. Just in case your system includes a riser cable (usually the cheaper Gen3 version), you might want to check that too.
