I purchased this CPU roughly two years ago, paired it with an inexpensive LGA2011 motherboard. The CPU didn’t fit properly, so it’s been sitting on a shelf for two years. It’s a 12-core, 2.60GHz Xeon E7-4860V2 model.

Socket 2011-1 supports Xeon E7 processors, but specialized boards for these chips are rare and expensive.

The exact connector type is LGA 2011-1 according to @Electronics Wizardy. Do you recall the motherboard you planned to use with that processor?

It seems it was likely employing standard LGA2011 - Sandy Bridge-E, Ivy Bridge-E, etc.

Xeon E7 processors are intended for premium servers. Without built-in memory controllers, they won’t fit on standard workstation motherboards. You’d need a system like the Dell PowerEdge R920—a large 4U server rack that accommodates 96 DIMMs.
