fair argument i guess, but counterargument to that is that if you compare the implementation of rtx in portal vs cyberpunk for instance is that in portal its not done very well, in fact the game files for portal rtx vs regular portal are basically the exact same, they both use source so obviously portal rtx is just portal with rtx simply injected into it, add some quick texture changes, make source somehow handle raytracing properly, maybe add some quick extra polygons for fidelity, and boom, great graphics demo for the 4090 meanwhile in games like cyberpunk the graphics have been built up partially around rtx and mix and interact perfectly with it (when the lighting is not bugging out to high hell), yet the implementation of that took a long time they are putting rtx in the latest games, they just need time for the tech to mature and time to actually develop these games with rtx in mind, remember, most (good) games released lets say, 2020 till mid 2021 started development before rtx was even viable, rtx just simply hasn't been around long enough for any non mass-media AAA games to start commonly using it
i find it funny. everyone use cyber punk.. and nothing else. did you rt is more then just shiny surfaces?
It was mostly what came to mind. I've been playing a lot lately, and one of the top ray-traced games is Ghostrunner. But that game makes me feel really bad.

You're right, I concur that for many games RTX isn't essential for good lighting quality. You've made some valid observations, even though you think the RTX portal offers better moments than the older one. The area where RTX really shines is VR, because small lighting issues become much more noticeable there. For now, we'll have to wait for the RTX 5090 Ti to make VR gaming smooth with ray tracing.
