I just completed assembling my new PC (took all day) and when I finally tried to power it up, it didn’t work. I’m using an ASUS Z790A-WIFI with a 13700F, MSI Mag 850GL on an ANTEC C5. No lights appear or fans spin. Even the PSU fan isn’t running. I’ve swapped the RAM slots and used just one. Resetting the CMOS helped. I even used a paper clip to jump the PSU and it worked—lights and RGB turned on. What’s going on?

The images aren't clear enough for identification, but have you made sure the ATX 12V is connected?

I confirmed it several times since I switched it to check the power source and ensure proper positioning

Connect just the essentials, leaving all other components unplugged. Power only the CPU while the rest remain disconnected. Remove memory and M.2 drives if present.

You're trying to boot with just the CPU and a 24-pin cable, but nothing happens—no lights, sounds, or movement.

It varies by motherboard; you might be able to check without a CPU in the socket. Remove the motherboard from the case for testing. Be cautious—this suggests the board may be faulty unless someone else offers a solution.

It's an ASUS Z790A Wi-Fi model. I'm hoping it's different since it might take a long time to finish all the paperwork, and I'm worried about getting the refund if I return it.

Remove the motherboard from the case, place it inside a cardboard box, detach all components (CPU, memory, M.2 drive, GPU, fan), then connect the power supply and attempt to start it.

Checked the power button on the motherboard. Is the PSU's switch inactive? Are there any bent CPU pins? Updated February 18, 2025 by leclod
