I've been working on this since Black Friday. CPU performance is solid at 7800X3d, motherboard ROG Strix B650-A is in good shape. RAM setup uses ADATA XPG Lancer with a 32GB capacity and DDR5-6000 speed. The PSU is Supernova 850w Gold, and storage includes a WD SN850X 2TB and SABRENT Rocket Q 4TB NVMe drive.

The GPU is a 3080Ti FE from the prior build. The sound card is SoundBlaster ZxR without a dedicated board. Windows 11 was freshly installed with BIOS version 2214, boot time around 37 seconds—usually between 35 and 40. Full boot to the lock screen takes about a minute, while loading Steam on a fresh start only takes 15 seconds. Opening the Friends list from the Steam icon on the taskbar is instant (15 seconds), even after closing and reopening.

Compared to my previous build (7700K), this feels much smoother: BIOS time dropped to 11 seconds, boot time to 25 seconds. Steam launches in just two seconds, and friends list appears almost immediately. These durations seem normal. I haven’t noticed any problems with fast boot being enabled or settings like EXPO. Memory Context Restore (MCR) was tried both on and off, but no issues arose.

The SN850x appears to be functioning well—no errors in Event Viewer, and no crashes during Netflix playback. The monitor going black only happens randomly when opening a show in Chrome, though it recovers. GPU drivers were reinstalled via DDU and resintalled without any BSODs. Everything seems stable.

Screen going dark during video playback and slow speed (99% of the time) points to driver issues. Update CPU, GPU, chipset, and any optional drivers from the vendor’s site. Retry after changes. Disable Fast Boot and Fast Startup in Windows 11 power settings if applicable—this often resolves problems but may introduce new ones. For Ryzen 7000 desktops, going to BIOS is normal; fixing it usually requires a motherboard BIOS update over time. Zen 4 memory training takes a long time, which is expected.

It's good to hear about the BIOS time. The app start time is still an issue—it feels excessively slow, making me doubt if I pressed the wrong button. There seems to be a problem somewhere. All drivers are up-to-date, and I just installed the latest Nvidia driver. I tried it right after a fresh reset. It forced the main screen to go black with a buzzing sound initially, but it recovered after a second. Before that, I thought it might not matter, though it was hard to confirm since it happened instantly. I changed the display settings to force Chrome to use the GPU instead of the built-in graphics.

A fresh exciting edition is here—when you attempt to set up a Steam title and press the gear button to relocate it, the installation window simply shuts down.

Hello, for better boot performance you can search the BIOS for memory timings and turn on memory context restore as well as PowerdownEnabled after your first startup. This usually helps. For Steam it has always been slow to launch, possibly due to a corrupt installation—try reinstalling or using the beta version to see if that improves things. Updated January 8, 2024 by TrinoD settings fix.

I've tested MCR both with and without it, but no clear changes have appeared. The BIOS time usually runs between 35-40 seconds. I'll also check the PowerDownEnabled option. My boot to Windows lock screen takes about a minute. Time to BIOS seems slow for the 7000 series. Problems have kept coming up across three different OS versions—Windows 11, then 10, and now back to 11. I plan to try removing my GPU tonight to see if the black screen issue appears with just onboard graphics. I've already reached out to MemoryExpress about returning the motherboard. That's all I've got right now; I'm stuck and really appreciate any advice you can offer.

It looks like the onboard graphics might be the main problem. After removing the GPU and using the built-in ones, loading Steam worked fine. But other issues remain. I tried rebooting, changing BIOS settings to turn off integrated graphics, reinstalling the GPU, and swapping cables—everything improved. Then I got a black screen with audio buzzing when I played a YouTube video. I sent an email about MemoryExpress yesterday but haven’t heard back. Anyone else have ideas?

I've never needed to adjust the BIOS settings to turn off built-in graphics for a software delay problem. Anyone have suggestions? If this was frequent, I'd expect more discussions about similar concerns.

You fixed the issue? Your new AMD build is also extremely sluggish when launching apps, even slower than a hard drive.
