This new laptop is running very slowly.
Hey everyone, my brother just got a new laptop with those specs: Lenovo IdeaPad 3, Windows 10, Intel i7-10510U, 20GB RAM, MX130 GPU, 1TB NVMe SSD and 1TB HDD. The main issue is it feels super slow. Most of the storage seems unused, it takes around five minutes to boot, and even after a while it freezes randomly. Apps take ages to launch, and searching in Windows takes about ten seconds. I’m worried the 20GB RAM might be the problem—since the seller said only 4GB is soldered, adding a 16GB stick could help. Everyone else has reported similar problems, so maybe that’s the cause. Thanks for your help!
The laptop you're describing has a base configuration that includes an Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM, and 15.6-inch FHD display. The storage mentioned is primarily an HDD, but replacing one of the memory modules could increase the capacity to around 20GB. This might be a concern depending on your needs.
The mechanical hard drive could be malfunctioning. These outdated components aren't suitable for modern laptops. I'd replace the drive and set up a fresh Windows installation on the NVMe storage. The RAM isn't optimal, but it doesn't lead to prolonged boot times. Windows may be attempting to access a non-existent network drive.
It seemed to be a kingstone 1TB HDD. The NVMe name in Device Manager looked random and suspicious—it might have been counterfeit or not genuine.
