This new GPU could be causing the PSU to activate its safeguards.
So I have the following scenario, I just installed a new 7900xtx Merc black, I have an EVGA supernova 750GA PSU, I played a bunch the first day, but on the second day My PC just turned off when loading a mission from armored core 6. I suspect some protections on the psu are being triggered, My PC turns off and when I press the power button it does not turn back on, I have to cycle the PSU switch off and on again, this is why I believe the OPP or some other protections on the PSU are triggering, is this a normal occurence after OPP triggering? Neither My GPU or CPU(5800x) are overclocked both are stock, I have a b550 MB, two nvme ssds, 4 case fans and one CPU fan, some USB peripherals, mouse, keyboard, external hard drive. Would this be enough to trigger OPP, and if so is the need to cycle the PSU switch the evidence. I had read that 750 watts was the minimum, I figured I don't have many additional components to suck more power, no AIO no pump or crazy RGB.
It's feasible the XFX model could reach up to 530W, with the remaining PC components drawing about 200W or less, bringing the total close to 750W. The PSU isn't especially high-end, which makes this scenario plausible. Consider applying power draw limits and undervolt settings; this might reduce the spikes and prevent the PSU from tripping.
Thanks to both factors, I'm pretty sure the PSU safeguards are activating. Before purchasing a new 1000+ watt PSU, I need the final confirmation. I adjusted power settings in the adrenaline software to -10%, but the PC still shut down. It won't turn on again just by pressing the power button—I have to unplug or cycle the PSU switch. This seems normal after an OPP triggered.
Resetting the power source is common when adjusting OPP settings.
