You're definitely in a bit of a pickle with your setup! It sounds like you're trying to connect a newer Nighthawk R7000 to an older WRT54GS and a legacy laptop setup. If you're having trouble getting the router to communicate properly, maybe check the network settings on both devices or see if there are any firmware updates available for your current router model. Upgrading to something like the R7000 could definitely boost your speeds, but make sure it's compatible with your existing hardware. Let me know what you find!

Truly nothing... It gets frustrated since it can't identify an internet link.

No, I did not manually adjust its IP address in the internet menu under the setup tab in advanced settings.

Additionally, if you were looking for a quicker local network, you might have overlooked purchasing an affordable gigabit switch.

I could be a bit confused here, but... 1. Are you linking to a "terminal" that ISPs now refer to? If so, you might need to use a specific port in bridge mode. 2. With the modem, I don’t like getting advice—I’m not too comfortable with help. From what you’re saying, it seems like you’re connecting the router → laptop → modem (probably missing). That setup usually doesn’t work.

The modem is essentially on the opposite side of the wall and linked to the main router through Ethernet. Although I was slow to fix, it turned out to be a bit complicated. In theory, the modem connects directly to the router, but in practice, the router, laptop, and then the router all worked just fine as described. Still, I’m really frustrated—I thought you could simply connect the router to another one using Wi-Fi. That would have been a much simpler solution. Overall, I’d rate this experience a solid 10/10 in terms of smartness.

It was actually more of a mental jolt than a simple thought.
