Correct, it doesn't back up quad channel but handles 4 DIMMs, which in your scenario means they're both similar. You're right—though dual rank dual channel is supported, it's not guaranteed for a 3200MHz setup. Most Ryzen 3000 series and later should work fine, though CPU compatibility isn't certain yet.

A slight performance boost occurs because Windows avoids frequent disk accesses, reducing page operations even with 16 GB of RAM. Additionally, caching of frequently used files in unused memory can enhance application speed. If the motherboard supports all four sticks at 3200 MHz, some applications may experience a minor improvement due to the processor handling commands for each rank independently.

It makes more sense to consider it by "rank per channel," even though that's not strictly accurate. 8GB DDR4 DIMMs have traditionally been single-rank. Older dual-rank units can offer better performance if other factors match. Pairing two single-rank DIMMs per channel works similarly to a dual-rank setup. Memory-limited tasks may notice big gains, such as 25% in Prime95 tests. For most applications, the variation is minimal and not worth much concern.
