Only proceed if your present CPU isn't sufficient for the required tasks.
@kingmustard added further points... I agree with @emosun. It depends on whether the CPU is under strain. Also, AM5 boards need a new motherboard. Most recent boards come with at least DDR5 support, which means additional RAM and higher costs. If it doesn’t need PCIe4 storage, there’s another expense involved. Essentially, my 5900X supports DDR4-3200 and PCIe3 M.2, so I don’t think all these upgrades are essential. You probably won’t notice the boost beyond 3.5 Gbps, and AM4 has been tricky with RAM changes—I’m unsure if jumping to a completely new standard is wise without extensive testing. A 5800X3D might work fine on existing hardware and RAM, and Zen4 seems unnecessary or too expensive for at least another few years. To be honest, my 5900X has stayed under 5% CPU usage since I’ve owned it. Don’t expect major price drops; they haven’t occurred until recently, especially after new releases in the last couple of years. Edited September 26, 2022 by An0maly_76 Updated with more details
