Hello all, I'm currently thinking of upgrading my old CPU and Motherboard, I came across the ASROCK Z490 Steel Legend motherboard and thought that would be a good choice. however when I put all the parts into pcpartpiker, everything seemed to be ok, but when I scrolled down I noticed this note: The ASRock Z490 Steel Legend ATX LGA1200 Motherboard has an additional 4-pin ATX power connector but the Corsair Builder 500 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply does not. This connector is used to supply additional 12V current to the motherboard. While the system will likely still run without it, higher current demands such as extreme overclocking or large video card current draws may require it. I'm just wondering if this is something to worry about or not. I have no plans on overclocking my pc and my graphics card is a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB GAMING OC PRO Video Card. So will my computer run ok or will I need a new power supply or should I just find a different motherboard?
Only the 8-pin EPS is needed unless you're using a 10900k, it delivers 384W and the other is for heavy overclocking like LN2 which you won't be able to run with ambient conditions. Consider your build budget? Which PSU fits? What power are you planning to use and are you restricted by the board?
Wow, take your time. Are you asking about the Corsair Builder 500W or the green CX500? That feels old. The Z490 Steel Legend is really not great—there are much better B460 boards out there. Tell me your budget, what parts you already own, and what upgrades you’re thinking about. Also, let me know your main use: gaming, streaming, video editing, etc.
