Just set up my new 5800X and adjusted the RAM settings to match what I used with my old 5600. Ran some gaming tests... the results were disappointing—Superposition dropped about 20%, Heaven fell from 4500 to 4250, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider launched within a small margin of error. The CPU frame times improved from 41% GPU usage to 70%, but overall performance didn’t match expectations. The BIOS is now up to date, and aside from the RAM overclock, I haven’t changed any voltage settings. It’s hard to believe I spent £240 for worse gaming performance than my reliable 5600. What a mistake!
The RAM speed isn't crucial for the X3D. Just turn on XMP settings and it should work fine without causing performance issues. Still, could you remind me what your motherboard was?
Thermals offers a powerful 5800x3d experience. Use the PBO2 Tuner for optimal performance; otherwise, it won’t run at peak settings. You can get the tuner via pbo2Tuner or check if your BIOS supports it. -25 to all cores is a good starting point, but pairing it with a 120W PPT cooler (80 TDC, 110 EDC) will give you the best results. What cooler are you using?
NH-D15S with an additional 120 mm front panel. Attempting CO undervolt tomorrow—BIOS shows Kombo strike, but I believe the newest MSI BIOS supports CO for X3D. My strategy is to set -25 for the "starred" cores and -30 for others, then boost performance with low-load OCCT core cycling in the NADS.
