It seems many efforts are needed to make newer CPUs work with your operating system, according to Microsoft. They’re only planning this for the versions that currently generate profits. They won’t support all Windows 10 versions for new CPUs, and once a specific version (like Windows 10 1607) reaches its end of life, no more CPU support will be provided.

Is there any chance you can install Windows 7 x64 inside Windows 10? It might help with your older games. I’ve tried this before using XP in a VMware setup to run a game on Windows 7.

This setup may take longer to respond due to its virtual nature.

Currently, I'm evaluating VM solutions to support running games that are compatible with Windows 9x.

Consider applying D Fend for a DOS-based project. The emulator works great! I tried it to run Star Trek A Final Unity on Windows 7 x64.

According to official announcements, support is limited to Windows 10 only, making a workaround for the CERN connection highly unlikely. You can safely install a Windows 7 virtual machine to play your old games. I agree with AMD's position—restricting older operating systems will result in more reliable systems over time.

I wouldn't rely on downloads or patches directly. For security, it's better to keep them in a virtual machine.

I considered dual booting, but it would be challenging due to the Teamspeak server I usually use with friends.
