I saw the "It's not a K" meme today. I checked a 4790k on Kijiji and spent hours trying to boot it up. After reviewing the task manager and CPU-Z, I realized it was just a basic machine. Always verify the heat spreader before purchasing. I remember this too—got a cold before leaving and my memory faded. The seller even claimed he overclocked it to 4.1GHZ using an OC tool. That was a joke! A 100MHz boost isn’t really overclocking; it’s like adding the power of an N64 to your PC. He was really excited about that pointless boost.
It cost me 200 Canadian dollars after he gave me back twenty bucks for his mistake. That’s a real letdown. I switched from a 4570, but it didn’t improve much. They’re almost identical CPUs. The 4570 turbos run at the same speed as the 4790, which is why the 4790k or 4770k might be worth considering for future upgrades if you can reach around 5 gigahertz. 4th generation chips still perform well. I’d have been better waiting to upgrade to a Ryzen 6 or 12 core instead. This was just a waste of my time and money. But now I could spend more time trying to get some refund (I ended up with a non-Asu MSI motherboard and 16GB RAM). So I could package that with my 4570 and ask for 200 rupes. The lesson here is: only trust your own mistakes, not anyone else’s.
