This is my initial experience with CIV V.
I began playing Civilization V today, grabbed it during the summer sale. The game feels really confusing, but I’m excited once I get the hang of it—it’s proving to be quite challenging right now. Any tips would be great! It seems like the rules are shifting a lot at first.
I don't have access to your current game settings. Could you please specify which game or platform you're playing?
So, Prince. For beginners, start with Chieftain. Prince plays fairly, but AI gives extra perks on Prince and higher. Deity is tough to beat. Also, try continents plus+ when you begin a match—it’s the map I prefer for regular games.
The game has a bit of a steep learning curve, but you'll gain a lot as you progress. It turns into an addictive experience, and you're driven to dominate everything. Focus on keeping the cities well supplied and maximizing your profits. Invest wisely in the research that will help you succeed.
Play with friends whenever you can—they tend to be more surprising at the start, but after a while you’ll grasp their moves and craft effective responses. It’s also much more enjoyable that way.
I recommend starting with simpler levels and heeding much of the initial tutorial guidance. As you gain understanding of the game, you'll better recall which technologies provide specific benefits, how to build your city effectively, and other key strategies. For instance, I usually pick the policy offering 3+ culture as my first option since it significantly boosts your early culture production, giving you a stronger foundation for future policies.
Aim to secure all victory paths from the start. Pick the race that matches your preferred win style. Domination is easy to execute. If you choose Science Victory, you might be targeted early, but your scientific edge will quickly surpass others—consider going for a Cultural Victory instead. You won’t need to train troops; your city-states provide all your forces, letting you concentrate on culture.
