It's occurred to me as well. It seems to happen unexpectedly.
For a few reasons, YouTube on Chrome isn't working smoothly for me, which isn't too unexpected.

The Book of Microsoft 1:1 says God observed the world and declared to create the Internet Explorer. I still dislike Internet Explorer.

You might want to try using Internet Explorer instead of Chrome for better performance.
With HTML5 player it seems limited to 720p quality
