This gaming console is unable to power on.
Hello everyone, I own an old Alienware that’s been in use for years. Recently, I’ve noticed it sometimes freezes during certain tasks, and the only solution was to force shut it down and restart. Until two days ago, the PC completely stopped starting up. Here are the details:
Specs: GPU – Nvidia GeForce GTX 770
CPU – Intel i7-4930K
RAM – 16GB (4×4GB) at 1600MHz DDR3
Power Supply – Unknown brand, included with the PC
Main components were original, except for a Wi-Fi card I added later.
Current condition: When I press the power button, the machine powers on with fans running and lights illuminated. However, it shows no image on the monitors. There’s no beeping or warning sound, just silence.
What I’ve tried:
- Disconnected all USB ports, mouse, and keyboard. Now only a power cable and one monitor remain connected.
- Tested the PSU with Dell’s built-in BIST; it shows a green light and fans spin.
- Removed all memory and attempted to boot from another PC; same issue persisted.
- Replaced CMOS battery for a few hours before reinserting.
- Updated BIOS, but it confirmed the latest version.
- Removed hard drives to access important files; they’re functioning on another system.
I’m still trying to identify which part failed and want to get the PC back online safely. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Maybe the graphics card isn’t working if you’re not seeing any output. No splash screen or boot logo at all? I think it’s likely a video card issue. After you’ve tried the troubleshooting already, the next step should be swapping in different hardware—beginning with the graphics card. Would you like me to try connecting directly to the motherboard, assuming the CPU has an integrated option?
No boot logo appears on the screen. I understand the monitor functions because I've used it on my laptop and it worked as an extension. However, I can't connect directly through the motherboard since that option isn't available here. I'll attempt to test the graphics card again tomorrow on another computer.
Verified performance on another machine, everything functioned flawlessly...
