The visuals seem off without proper anti-aliasing and high sampling rates, both inside and outside the game. The ghost effects behind characters and horse tails are definitely not normal. At first I thought it was just monitor artifacts, but it’s clearly an in-game issue. Despite the impressive RDR scenes and lighting, these glitches really bother me.
Observed this in RDR2 and it appears in newer titles too (Hell Let Loose comes to mind).
Frame-based anti-aliasing typically introduces some ghosting effects because of its design. Most temporal anti-aliasing methods work similarly, while most TAA implementations are usually adjusted to either minimize or accept this blurry appearance, much like Quantum Break and Control. It appears Red Dead Redemption 2 integrated the feature as an afterthought onto the existing RAGE technology, resulting in a less polished look.
