Hey everyone, I just acquired an Asus Prime X570-P motherboard (previously used with an Asrock B450 Pro4). It doesn’t have a way to turn on Precision Boost Overdrive in the BIOS. I looked through the manual and some videos showing this board—some were from before, others used Zen2 or Zen3 chipsets. I’m not surprised since my old board had the same issue. I’m wondering if PBO support was removed after Zen+ was introduced. I tried overclocking manually at 4.05GHz with 1.22v, but I’m still curious about whether PBO is still available.

PBO was never actually available for Pinnacle Ridge. It debuted with 2nd Gen Threadripper Colfax CPU models. Nonetheless, you can still boost PPT, TDC, and EDC to achieve a comparable result. Some motherboards kept using the "PBO" label when supporting older Pinnacle Ridge chips.

I stumbled upon the explanation by chance. AMD recently released it for certain Zen+ chip models, which aligns with the content I viewed while testing Ryzen 7 2700X and Ryzen 5 2600X.

It should remain possible to adjust power settings manually to achieve the same outcome, even with non-X CPUs that stay unlocked.

According to what I understand, these limits are enforced by the board when PBO isn't turned on. I don’t recall any BIOS settings for adjusting them, and the current Ryzen Master version doesn’t allow changes. About a year ago I could modify them manually. The board may let you define offsets, but I found the Prime X570-P applying too much voltage even though all cores only reached 3.7Ghz. I attempted to enable PBO a few weeks prior to avoid manual tuning. Recently, I spent some time fine-tuning it—adjusting frequency and core voltage—to get it around 4.125Ghz at 1.31v, then lowering it to 4.05Ghz at 1.22v for better stability while still exceeding 4Ghz.
